It was a pleasure meeting so many great parks and recreation professionals at the annual NRPA Congress in Charlotte, North Carolina, last week. Whether you were attending the inaugural Brand+Aid Institute or the general sessions, the craving for knowledge was present which is exactly what our industry needs.
Every year I come home from Congress or other similar trainings with a passionate desire to change the world. Does this sound familiar?
It’s always refreshing to generate that list of innovative ideas that are going to help our departments be the best they can be. This year will be no different. Lessons learned at Brand+Aid and NRPA Congress will continue to raise the bar for our team in Arlington as we strive to provide the best programs and services to residents and visitors to our community.
This fall and winter, we will begin working off the checklist of ideas we learned from fellow colleagues in October. Hopefully, your list has numerous marketing initiatives that you can implement to help elevate your brand and increase participation in your programs.
Our trip to Charlotte was a great success for the City of Arlington. After months of planning and work, the department was awarded accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and we were fortunate enough to be selected as a Gold Medal Finalist.
In addition, Ryan Hegreness and I presented to a group at NRPA Congress about "How to Build a Marketing Team". Hopefully, the information we provided during our session helped spur ideas for everyone who attended. Our industry needs to put more emphasis on marketing our million dollar businesses.
